Focus on the future and join us live on Zoom on October 28 for the next Torched Talks
There are a lot of megaevent-related proposals across LA — but so far, little region-wide vision. That's where Los Angeles Tomorrow comes in — a new nonprofit co-founded by ARUP alum Katherine Perez and founding CicLAvia director Aaron Paley, with landscape architect Ruth Siegel serving as deputy director. Los Angeles Tomorrow's goal is to "facilitate and accelerate community-powered public space improvements and activations across LA County" ahead of those megaevents. And if you want to get a big-picture, on-the-ground view of what's happening — or not happening — this is the conversation to join!
Earlier this month I chatted with Aaron about the important role that cultural hubs can play during megaevents, which is really at the heart of Los Angeles Tomorrow's work. We'll be talking about the legacy of 1984's Olympic Arts Festival, good models for activations across LA County, and how new ways of working together, like LA Mayor Karen Bass's just-announced executive directive to create a capital infrastructure plan, could change the way we shape those public spaces over the next few years.
